Housing Justice at COP30: Civil society voices in the climate space
The integration of the housing sector into international climate debates is increasingly recognised, building on the work by civil society, social movements, grassroots and allied policy and research partners stressing the links between housing and climate justice, and the crucial role of housing in addressing – or exacerbating – the deep injustices embedded in the ongoing climate crisis.
How and by whom housing is framed in climate arenas impacts its implications for rights and justice. This publication brings together the key messages that civil society groups brought to COP30 in Belém, Brazil, as a strategic juncture for future climate engagements from the housing justice community. Both a stocktake and an accountability tool, this collection represents a collective call for recognising that centring housing in climate debates requires a strong rights-based, community-led, and justice-framed localisation agenda to be truly transformative.
