Understanding housing justice
Around the world, housing injustice is pushing more than two billion people into housing deprivation. The commodification of land and housing results in displacement, eviction and unhealthy living conditions for the poorest people.
Now, communities are mobilising to advocate for their rights and for involvement in the planning and policy that affect their chance of a decent home.
The video below shows how communities in India, Chile, South Africa, Nigeria, Italy, the United States, Brazil and the UK are fighting for housing as a human right.
The video introduces and summarises a set of short films produced for a series of housing justice exchanges convened by the International Institute for Environment and Development (IIED). The exchanges aimed to explore the meanings that different groups attach to the housing justice agenda to deepen the collective understanding of housing justice.
